Will Spin For Cupcakes

Hey.

Oh, good, you're paying attention.

That is a Ch-Chocolate cupcake from the new Blue Bird Bake Shop.  It’s one of the most delicious things I’ve ever put in my mouth.

Go ahead, make your jokes.

Moving right along.

Blue Bird Bake Shop is a located on Corrine Drive right near some other hip Orlando staples, like Stardust Coffee and Video, Park Ave. CD’s, and Big Daddy’s karaoke bar, and it is also in walking distance from where I live!  (I’ll walk when it isn’t 1,000 degrees out.)  Blue Bird is independently owned and they bake their cupcakes fresh daily.  There’s always a cupcake of the day, which they advertise on Facebook and Twitter.  It is delightful and adorable and the owners are very nice people, which is why I will spin for cupcakes.

Saturday tends to be my hardest workout day of the week.  I wake up early(ish), no matter what I did the night before, and I go to a completely packed spinning class, which is usually led by my favorite spinning instructor at the Y, then I go to Power Yoga (wayyyyyy better than regular yoga) and I chaturanga my way to svelteness, all so I can enjoy my afternoon cupcake with my best friend, Miranda, who is something of a cupcake junkie.

Blue Bird’s cupcakes are a really great once weekly treat because their cupcakes aren’t too big.  It seems like some other bakery cupcakes I’ve had have just been massive, and at $3.50-$5 a piece, you end up feeling like you have to put the whole cupcake away, but Blue Bird charges a fair $2.75 for their pretty little cakes and they’re normal sized cupcakes.  The frosting is piled a little high, but that’s why I don’t take breaks in that Saturday morning spin class!

One of the things we talked about with the Registered Dietitian at the Nutrition Seminar the other day was the idea that everything in moderation is a good rule to live by.  I don’t eat cupcakes every day.  I don’t even eat dessert every day, and when I do, it’s one piece of dark chocolate clocking in at about 45 calories, or a cup of fruit with a little frozen yogurt.  A Saturday cupcake with my best friend, for me, is a great way to indulge a little without going nuts.

I mean srsly…

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

Downside Up

Go to Blue Bird Bake Shop with your best friend after those tough Saturday morning workouts.  It’s totally worth it.

  1. Cupcakes! There is no dessert I love more. Except maybe for cupcakes with ice cream in the middle. Do those exist? I’ll take that peanut butter chocolate chip one.

[...] Verdict: WIN!  Funny, I actually did end up losing about 4 pounds in August that I’ve been trying to shake for MONTHS, but I didn’t end up doing that much differently.  I originally planned on being super strict with calories every day for the month of August (which is how I’ve lost weight in the past), just to see how much of a difference it would make, but then I just kind of…didn’t do that.  Instead, I was diligent about writing my food down, I continued being diligent about my workouts, I cut back on drinking a bit (just a bit!), and I’ve been cooking at home more, and going out to eat less.  Between all of those things, these couple of stubborn pounds have just come off.  I still have more I want to lose, and that’s totally okay, but overall, I’d say this one ended up being a surprising WIN!  Plus, I still got to have cupcakes!
